Meet Miss Alabama

Courtney Porter of Clay, Alabama, was crowned Miss Alabama 2011 on June 11^th.  She competed as Miss Leeds Area.  Courtney is a graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, and was an honor graduate of Clay-Chalkville High School.  Her community service platform is the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.  Courtney’s future goals include working in the communications or public relations fields. 

Courtney is the first Miss Alabama since 1944 to win as a tap dancer! She has studied dance for twenty-one years and was selected as a member of the Auburn University Tiger Paws Dance Team for four consecutive years. 

Courtney maintained a 4.33 GPA during high school and won an award for the Most Outstanding Citizenship of the Senior Class.  She was on the Dean’s List at Auburn University and also a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Lambda Sigma (top 50 rising sophomores at AU), and was listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. 

Courtney was an intern with the Children’s Hospital Foundation working with CMNH and the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.  She coordinated a “Boiling N’ Bragging” fundraiser for Children’s Hospital that raised over $2,600. She participated in the “Racin’ 4 Kids” benefit for Children’s Hospital that raised over $100,000.  Courtney has served as the coordinator of Homework Helpers at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Chambers County, a tutor at Jefferson State Community College, a guest fine arts teacher at Center Point Elementary School, and the coordinator of G.I.R.L.S. at Leeds Elementary School. She has been an advocate for platform funding before the Alabama Legislature for the past two years during session. Courtney participated with Auburn University’s IMPACT program mentoring at-risk youth, and was the coordinator of a book drive at the Boys and Girls Club of Chambers County. 

Courtney is the daughter of Denis and the late Michelle Porter and has two sisters.  She is a big football fan and can throw a perfect spiral football pass!
